Short History<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Center for European Legal Studies\n(CESL) is a scientific research unit, without legal personality, a department\nof the Legal Research Institute of the Romanian Academy, established by the\ndecision of the Presidium of the Romanian Academy of 30 July 2008.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CELS’s ideas are the achievement of\nfundamental and applied research, as well as the dissemination of information\nthrough the development of debates in the field of European law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The openness shown by CELS can be found in the topics addressed during the\ndebates and conferences, partnerships with publishing houses from the country\nand abroad in order to promote young researchers and the analyzes of authors\nwith scientific experience, as well as the interdisciplinary character of the\npromoted projects. Current programs of the Center for European Legal Studies:\n„Interpretation and application of European Union law by Romanian\ncourts” (RomaniaEULaw); „Culture of European law”,\n„European consultations”, „JurisClasor ECDO”,\n„Research methodology in European Union law”, \u201eData protection and\nnew technologies\u201d „European business law” as well as a Romanian\nlanguage translation project of some significant papers and books by European\nUnion law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Current research programs of the\nCenter for European Legal\nStudies:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

„Interpretation\nand application of European Union law by Romanian courts” (RomaniaEULaw) –\ncarried out together with the Romanian Judges’ Forum Association and the\nRomanian Association of European Law and Affairs (ARDAE);<\/p>\n\n\n\n

„Culture\nof European law” – debates with personalities and young researchers; the\npresentation\/launch of works by partner publishing houses (from the country \u2013\nC.H.Beck, Hamangiu, Universitar\u0103, Universul Juridic, Wolters Kluwer, or from\nabroad \u2013 Bruylant, Cambridge University Press, Hart Publishing, Oxford\nUniversity Press, T.M.C. Asser Press, Wolters Kluwer International) ;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

„European\nconsultations” – program aimed to strength the proactive capacity (anticipation)\nof Romanian specialists regardingcurrent problems of the European Union;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nproject „JurisClasor CEDO” – is carried out on the basis of a\npartnership with the University Publishing House, the Association of European\nMagistrates for Human Rights (AMEDO) and the Association of the Forum of Judges\nfrom Romania, its aim is to publish the jurisprudence of the European Court of\nHuman Rights in the language Romanian and includes three distinct sections,\nnamely an annual printed compilation with all the judgments sentencing Romania\nwith an analysis of the consequences and potentially responsible authorities,\nan online magazine in which specialized articles are published, important\njudgments pronounced by the ECtHR against Romania, relevant judgments for domestic\nlaw, pronounced also against other states, inadmissibility decisions, human\nrights news, reviews, etc., as well as a database with an advanced search\nengine (www.hotararicedo.ro).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

„Research\nmethodology in European Union law”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

„European\nbusiness law” – intended for applied research in the areas of material law\nof the European Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CELS\nhas a special partnership with the (Romanian Journal of European Law) and the \u201ePandectele\nrom\u00e2ne\u201d (Wolters Kluwer Romania), which consists mainly in the publication of research\nresults.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group of people interested in CSDE activities is made up of teaching staff, officials of European and national institutions in the field of reference, as well as practitioners. CELS’s activities are reflected on the „European Legal Affairs” blog<\/a>. The blog is a source of various references to scientific resources published both online and offline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
